Pediatric Outcome Measures

Group Study Course

This continuing education course is designed to help physical therapists and physical therapist assistants implement evidence and content from Chapter 3: Measurement in Campbell’s Physical Therapy for Children, 6th edition– into clinical practice. The chapter will be reviewed in detail to support acquisition of new knowledge and clinical practice improvement for course participants. The course is divided into four separate sessions.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Critically review Chapter 3

  2. Effectively apply the information from Chapter 3 (Measurement) in Campbell’s Physical Therapy For Children, 6th edition:

  3. Describe key developmental measurement principles related to

    1. Validity

    2. Reliability

    3. Norm vs Criterion Referenced

    4. Psychometrics

  4. Select and implement tests and measures at the impairment, activity, and participation levels for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults

  5. Interpret results from tests/measures to optimize clinical reasoning and outcomes for children and families

Session Design

The first online, asynchronous session will focus on general measurement principles. All participants will be required to view this session on their own and complete a knowledge assessment.

The subsequent sessions will focus on implementation and interpretation of tests and measures for children ages birth to 3, 3-12, and 12-young adult. These sessions will be interactive and include case-based discussions and video to emphasize successes and challenges related to knowledge-to-action.
